1371600-10160000 The retail store we selected was Club Monaco, which is a clothing brand for men and women. The products that are sold in the store are mid-price high-end clothing. Polo Ralph Lauren in Toronto founded the clothing brand in 1985. They have more than 140 locations world wide such as, Canada, Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, South Korea, China, the Arab Emirates, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Arabia, Sweden, Turkey, United States, and United Kingdom. Club Monaco is best known for their "black and white" styles/ collections. Also, each month they bring in a new collection to their retail stores. We visited Club Monaco located in the Westfield mall on December 12th in San Francisco, CA at 10:00am. The store was pretty empty; there were only six customers and three sales associates. We noticed the collection that was in-stores was their Holiday collection, which offered casual and evening wear pieces. In the collection there were a lot of leathers, knits, beaded dresses, and neutral/ pastel colors. Club Monaco seems to always do a great job connecting the collection with the set up. The store decorations, the window display, and the music were all holiday themed. Not only was the store layout easy to shop, but also the window displays really pulled us into the store and made us aware that they had current product to fulfill our holiday shopping needs. Even though Club Monaco is high-end brand they still demonstrate great customer service and interact with their customers. During our visit, the sales associates were very friendly. They greeted us upon entering the store and asked open-ended questions so as to help us find what we were shopping for. Furthermore, they informed us of current promotions going on in the store, and offered advice on multiple products. Overall, our shopping experience was a positive one and we would not only recommend Club Monaco to friends and family, we would continue to shop at this retail store in the future. The clothes were trendy, displayed nicely, and were reasonably priced for the quality. The staff members were polite, friendly, approachable, and knowledgeable about the product. Club Monaco is all together a great store to visit.

Consequently, it is questionable how the soldiers cope with the horrors of war. Throughout the novel it is shown that the soldiers use many mechanisms to manage this emotional baggage. This includes, but is not limited to, storytelling, humor and denial. Majority of the novel is a recollection of stories from the war. O’Brien states at the end of the novel that the stories are â€Å"Tim trying to save Tim’s life with a story.† (O’Brien 233). Yet, not all of the stories are entirely factual. The storyteller tends to exaggerate or obliterate parts of the stories. This is so that the soldiers can forget things that they do not want to remember, keep in mind things they do want to remember and focus on more positive aspects of the war. In doing so, this helps the soldiers cope with t he horrors of war by neglecting negative aspects. For example, in â€Å"The Man I Killed†, O’Brien goes into detail on the man’s physical characteristics and possible life story, and neglects his presence in the actual situation. By doing so, he isn’t focusing on the fact that he feels guilty for killing the man or the fact that he killed the man in general. Also, in â€Å"Sweetheart of the Song Tra Bong†, it is unknown whether that story is true or not but it isn’t a horror war story or death war story. It is a story that took focus off the negative things in war, and put focus on a lighter subject. Another coping mechanism that is seen in The Things They Carried is humor. Whenever a tragic incident occurs, jokes are always made in order to make light of the circumstances. For example, when the soldiers go looking for Kiowa’s body, Azar makes jokes of the irony within the situation. He says â€Å"Man, talk about irony. I bet if Kio wa was here, I bet he’d just laugh. Eating shit- it’s your classic irony.† (158). Azar is focusing more on the irony of the situation rather than the fact that he lost yet another friend. If they didn’t find a way to cope with these frequent horrors they would go mad and most likely become suicidal. The soldiers have to make light of situations in order to prevent themselves from going insane. Humor essentially functions as the means of their emotional stability during their time in Vietnam. Instead of the soldiers grieving on the deaths of their fellow men, they find the humor in the situation and laugh it off so they can continue on their journey. To Learn How to Learn Learning how to learn is one of the key elements of education. Schools need to teach students how to find information they will need once they leave school. Therefore, the specific subject matter being taught is not as important for future personal success as is the ability for students to understand how to find answers for any questions and problems that might arise. 6. Lifelong Habits for Work. Many of the lessons that schools teach are necessary for success in their students future lives. As adults, they will need to be able to get to work on time, dress and behave appropriately, and get their work done in a timely manner. Pieces of a Novel Puzzle “A novel or a collection of short stories?'; may be a question that a critic asks about Rattlebone. Maxine Clair portrays both arguments with her energetic writing style. A blend of random comments and many unique phrases intermix with the intense plot. Writing like this gives the reader a more relaxed state and the book seems more alive and real. In answer to the critique question, Maxine Clair is writing a novel because of an abundant supply of foreshadowing, a collection of narrators, a recurrence of characters, and a process commonly known to man as aging. Suggesting that Rattlebone is in fact a novel, foreshadowing occurred in several places during the book. Clair uses this writing method by mentioning the name October Brown, partly because Brown is involved at the beginning and towards the end of the book. Ms. Brown became an important part of Irene’s life, not only by being one of the main reasons for her parents’ divorce, but also by helping Irene accomplish one of her goals. The time that occurred between these two events in the book connects Rattlebone and is a very good use of foreshadowing. Another example of Clair’s use of this writing method is the experience of the divorce between Irene’s parents. This long-term process displayed Irene’s parents as being unforgiving. At first his wife forgives James Wilson for the affair that he enjoyed with October Brown, but after a period of time, Pearl also had her share of the fall in their relationship. At this time, neither one of Irene’s parents wo uld forgive the other nor make up with the other. This example again shows the use of foreshadowing by Clair by evolving the event over several chapters with different narrators. Irene, the narrator in several different stages of the divorce between her parents, speaks her feelings of disgust and always tries to keep her parents’ relationship together. Another side of the story comes from October Brown’s landlord, Mrs. Pemberton. Mrs. Pemberton wants nothing to do with the affair and therefor tries to separate the two lovers. Irene takes the stage again and reveals to the reader subconsciously, that her father is the man having the affair. The use of two narrators, each having a different look at the situation, may seem confusing to the reader at first, but once the chapters are all read and the whole story gets across, it becomes apparent why the change in narration was necessary.
